A Family Legacy

The West Coast Roux is a true family endeavor, launched five years ago in San Francisco's Bayview Hunters Point by our founder, Chef Roux, alongside her mother, Momma Roux, and sister, Sister Roux. This unique business specializes in Southern and comfort cuisine, offering fresh meal prep for lunch. Every recipe is made from scratch, utilizing ingredients sourced directly from local farmers.

Chef Roux's Culinary Path

Our founder, Chef Roux's culinary journey, spans 17 years. She began with her own catering business, Tara's Southern Kitchen, serving small community events like church luncheons and graduation parties. Quickly realizing the need for more extensive professional kitchen experience, she closed Tara's Southern Kitchen. For the next decade, she immersed herself in various culinary environments, working in restaurants, corporate kitchens, and hotel banquets, mastering nearly every position imaginable.

Roots in Southern Tradition

The heart of Chef Roux's cooking lies in her childhood summers spent on her grandparents' 80-acre farm in Blakely, Georgia. It was there she learned to cook using antique cast iron skillets and an old-fashioned stove. Her grandmother taught her the art of smoking meats 'low and slow,' and the family often enjoyed freshly slaughtered animals and caught fish. The farm itself was a bounty, producing collard greens, okra, and plenty of fresh fruit like peaches, figs, and berries. They also grew sugarcane, peanuts, cotton, and sunflower seeds, often hosting lively fish fries for family gatherings.
